Welcome to the first 420 NonPop Festival at Sound In!   Create some weed-infused-inspired works or just some new music for the event which will stay open until Saturday night.

    Vigil 4-20-17

This is slightly on-topic, given the title and the fact that it is very mellow.  Another version of Vigil, this time based on random ordering of the 24 segments.

The server is creating another version based on Shane's beautiful photo today at Whittier College.  I'll post that, probably tomorrow but you can hear it now at http://104.32.9.221/index.html

Hey everyone and J.C. wow different and great alt-weekend event!  Like Kavin it's been a few days of thinking about Allan Holdsworth who passed away last Sunday.  He was amazing and I don't pretend to have a sense of his magical soaring lines but I've watching a number of videos of him this week mostly with Bill Bruford projects which were my fav.  This improv just done meant as a bit of a capture of a sense of him and is also a eulogy to his understated greatness.

Apparently guitar is in the air. Not made with the theme in mind, but I guess it could fit. Used the looper and TimeLine on this one.

I guess later tonite => when I am home I will create the spaced out weed time piece…

But for now enjoy the pomato work of doubles…

So here is glimpse of space weed=> btw the alien in my mind really does eat my thoughts.

I am at a conference tomorrow on a panal so I am busy most of this weekend 🙁  but I did do some other works during the week that I posted here http://ice9.soonlabel.com/blog/

this was also created and directly uploaded to… my soundcloud account

        thanks Jim!!

I do piano really well… i started piano lessons in third grade I could play fur elise in fifth grade and moonlight sonata by sixth grade but… I focused on  trombone from sixth grade thru college till I went electronic in college but always able to go right back to keys … I spent 3 months in a hospital bed with a protable keyboard just playing day in day out and also jamming with the radio — of course…

this work here is the actual single line preformance I made in direct record the above pomato is both the first and second performaces together ooo

This was posted by Shane Cadman today and his iPhone app turned it into a perfect example of California Plein Air painting. My server analyzed this image and produced the coordinates for ordering the sequence of my ambient piece for this week.  I doubled one of  the tracks and did some editing, but it captures this image pretty well.

A friend was close today… I will quote him from the visit I made with him at the hospital, "I remember seeing the monitor go flat line."  He spoke these words to me about 6 hours after that.  I did not think I was coming home.  I did …. his stroke is put him Out of balance with himself.  it has left … a person that even still remembers me and my antics and nuances — It is very close now — and critical treatment is going on… there is a window in his room – to the nurses station.  —-  —

I made a song before I left in the lobby — this is it.

tonite I remixed a song as well… the second song above

as being distrawt is kinda confusing and in such state I might of mixed up these songs between when and what and where it happened… Maybe.?

Did you all notice that you can follow threads in the upper right hand corner.  A little caption lights up nx to where your name is at.  Click it and it will open up a truncated view of discussions.  Pretty cool I think.

    Homework

Tonya (violin) recorded a rhythm loop she called "I Hate Homework" (her own, her children's, in general), and we did an improv over it. I have been referring to my various motivational pursuits (such as working on music and doing the SoundIn event) as "doing my homework," so the title was obvious.

    • Jim Goodin says:

Ken! Awright! you made it and brought somebody.  That's worth a gold star.  Track sounds nice.  Like the placement of the violin parts and the sense of liquidity in the piece.  Don't be a stranger at Sound (no hyphen at all) In.

    Political Thought

I sent friend Ray whose past member from the SI community my Total Harm(onic) piece earlier to have him consider adding some drums to it.  Instead he took it farther and added several samples to it, some that were a bit too known and felt licensing issues so I hid and manipulated further.  In the end started looking for pub domain speeches and found JFK's of the Cuban Missile Crisis which in a weird way seemed fitting for our current times.  I manipulated further.

Going to error on caution and post one last.  Solo fretless improv recorded through a Pure Data patch I made a while back.  Neat event everyone.  I've listend to some but will listen through during the evening.  Thanks J.C. for kicking off the first 420 Nonpop Fest.
